Chapter 14: Closed Doors

Qur’an Says: “if God were to inflict you with harm, then none can remove it except Him; and if He were to bless you with good, then He is capable of all things”.

Hawzah News Agency-The Qur’an is the principle source of every Muslim’s faith and practice, but its basic theme is the relationship between God and His creatures and provides guidelines for a just society, proper human conduct and equitable economic principles. For next 100 days we are presenting some short articles on ethical issues that have been written based on the verses of Qur’an.

God opens doors of opportunity before us that no one is able to shut. As He says: “if God were to inflict you with harm, then none can remove it except Him; and if He were to bless you with good, then He is capable of all things”. (Qur’an; 6:17) But we have to realize, sometimes He also closes doors because He has something better in store. We may see a logical opportunity, but just because it is the logical way, does not mean that it is God’s way. He says in Qur’an: “It may be that you dislike something while it is good for you, and it may be that you love something while it is bad for you, and God knows and you do not know”. (Qur’an; 2:216)

Just because it happened that way before, does not mean it is going to happen that way next time. That is why you have to stay open and keep trusting in God. If you are narrow-minded and only look at the door that is been closed, you may miss the door He has opened behind you. When you are able to let go of your own agenda and trust God, He will make sure you see those open doors. Almighty God says that our attitude should always be, “God, I surrender all to You. I trust You to do it Your way.” Qur’an says: “"The one who surrenders himself to God, while doing good, he will have his reward with his Lord. There will be no fear over them, nor will they grieve.” (Qur’an; 2:112) Then, step back and see the open door He has prepared for you. Know that “anyone who puts his trust in God, then He suffices him”. (Qur’an; 65:3)
